“Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness; know that, like life, things sometimes must fade before they can bloom.”

Mama kitty (who I have a tentative name for, by the way) was spayed yesterday. They found three kittens. One was dead, the other pretty much half-absorbed, and the only living kitten was too premature to survive. This was not a surprise, but I still grieve.

She came through the surgery really well. The best part is that she’ll never have to go through this again, and hopefully in a few weeks she’ll find an amazing family where she’ll be pampered and cherished for the rest of her life. I can’t wait to see that happen. She has been such a brave girl through this whole ordeal and I think she’s handled it better than me.

I’ve set her up in the bathroom in the kitten pen so she can’t jump while her incision  heals. The vet says it will take about two weeks. She’ll be on pain meds for a few more days and antibiotics for the first weeks. The only thing I have noticed with her is that her sides are tucked in. I suppose that makes sense, give that kittens and an enlarged uterus full of fluid were removed from her yesterday. I tried to get a picture to show what I’m talking about, but it doesn’t look as pronounced in the pictures.

I will continue to update you on her progress, but I will suspect that it will be smooth cruising for her from here out.

These days I swear I’m seeing double.

Because we could use a little kitten cuteness today.

I’m happy mama cat is doing well, though it’s too bad for the babies. She is spectacularly beautiful!
